How does it work?

  • Tap on the Free share button in your app. 🎟
  • You refer a friend, and once your friend opens and fund their account and fills out their W-8BEN form, you both get a free share from Freetrade. 👯
  • The stocks will be randomly selected from a list of interesting companies, ETFs, and trusts, with a value from £3 to £200. This is a bit like a lottery, except you always win something and we think it’s better than cash!
  • You can get both UK and US stocks.
  • The stock will drop into your General Investment Account. We can’t put it in your ISA.
  • Both you and your friend must have a funded account and have completed the W-8BEN form that lets you invest in US stocks.

Is this available on both iOS and Android?

Yes.

When will I be able to invite friends?

To be able to refer, fund your account and fill out your W-8BEN form.

Can I share my link with more than one person?

Yes! Use your personal referral link to share with your friends. Every friend who downloads the app from your referral link will count.

Can I refer more than one friend?

Yes! You can send your referral link to as many people as you’d like. However, you will can only receive a maximum of 10 free shares per calendar month. Any referrals you make that exceed this limit cannot be ‘carried over’ to the next month and won’t be awarded a free share.

Do I get the same stock as my friend?

Not likely, but possible. Allocating free shares is a completely randomised process.

When will I receive my stock?

You should receive this within 7-10 days. Orders can be rejected for a number of technical reasons, unrelated to Free Share referrals.

There are certain stocks I don’t want for ethical or personal reasons, can I swap?

We can’t offer swaps at this stage, but you’re free to sell your share.

How to get your free share 🎁

‍

  1. Click the referral link from your friend.
  1. Submit your email.
  1. Download the Freetrade app from the App Store or Google Play.
  1. Once you’ve completed account setup, you’ll be guided through a couple of steps:
  • The W-8BEN form to let you invest in US stocks.
  • Topping up your account.
  1. Once you’ve topped up and the money has arrived in your account and you have filled out your W-8BEN form, a mystery share will appear in your General Investment Account on your portfolio screen. We’ll grant the share itself in the coming weeks.

How we choose your free share

  • Shares are chosen from a selection of around 90 stocks from our universe.
  • They’re chosen randomly, so you and your friend may not receive the same share. Fun!
  • The share will range in value from £3 up to £200 at the point of being awarded.

Taxes

The entire value of the share when sold may be subject to capital gains tax. You can check the value of each share when issued and/or sold on your portfolio screen.

Free Share Terms & Conditions

Referrer's Terms

‍

  1. Freetrade’s free share referral program is valid for existing qualifying customers who have successfully completed a referral. The below terms apply to the referrer, or “Sender”, of the free share referral link.
  1. A referral can’t be given to an existing or previous Freetrade customer.
  1. A free share is only awarded if both the Sender and the referred customer (“Recipient”) has successfully completed all of the below:
    - Used a referral pass to sign up (i.e. not just downloading the app directly),
    - Passed onboarding checks,
    - Filled in a W-8BEN form, and
    - Funded their account with at least £1.
  1. Freetrade reserves the right to increase the minimum funding amount from £1 at any time and without prior notice.
  1. The Recipient must fund their Freetrade account within 30 days of referral link creation otherwise the award lapses for both Sender and Recipient.
  1. If the Recipient closes their account before the free share is awarded, neither the Sender nor Recipient is eligible for a free share.
  1. The free share will be valued between £3 and £200 per share at the time of awarding.
  1. The free share is one instrument selected randomly when the referral criteria is met from a pool of instruments selected for this program. The probability is weighted so more expensive shares will be rarer.
  1. Senders can receive a maximum of 10 free shares per calendar month. Successful referrals which qualify for a free share cannot be “carried over” into subsequent months, they will simply lapse. Referrals are attributed to the month in which the customer uses the referral link, not the month in which they complete the steps which qualifies them for a free share (listed in point 3).
  1. Free shares are usually awarded within ten days of qualifying. This is not a guarantee and if the free share has not been awarded in the ten day timeframe, the Sender or Recipient must email freeshare@freetrade.io. Compensation will not be given if a free share is awarded more than ten days after qualifying.
  1. If the free share is sold, cash proceeds cannot be withdrawn until at least 30 days from the date the free share was awarded.
  1. Employees and contractors of Freetrade are not eligible for this offer.
  1. The offer is only available where the Recipient customer is eligible and accepted as a Freetrade customer. This applies to UK tax residents only, and unfortunately excludes US nationals or dual US nationals who reside in the UK. We reserve the right to refuse to onboard an applicant customer.
  1. Neither receiving a share through this program nor any mentions of particular securities in our communications as part of this referral program represents a recommendation to buy, sell, or hold any particular security.
  1. Receiving a free share may have tax implications for the recipient. Freetrade does not take any responsibility for tax related to this share award.
  2. It’s in our full discretion to withdraw, remove or vary the free share offer at any time for any customer.
